From my early days as a child, born and brought up in Bournville next to Cadbury’s chocolate factory, I was lucky enough to have a system of open spaces that could be called upon for recreation and relaxation. Some of these experiences were daily, some seasonal such as the conker tree, opposite the Green, on the way to school. Other experiences were less frequent, such as playing Pooh Sticks on the bridge in the first park or ice-skating on the Valley Pool in the winter of 1962–63. There are three parks, linked together, that we used regularly.
