In 1997, several scholars of multicultural education, from four countries including the host country, were invited to participate in the “International Symposium on Multicultural Education: Theories and Practices” at the National Taiwan Normal University. The purpose of this symposium was to present to a mainly Taiwanese audience (educators, policymakers, community leaders) perspectives on the theories and practices of multicultural education, including problems and issues confronting the field.
